Today I am thankful:
For meeting my radiation oncologist, who is young, well qualified, and to-the-point.
Because everything is set up for me to start radiation tomorrow.
Because I have tranquilizers to keep my claustrophobia in check enough to get through the treatment with that nasty, tight, horrible mask pressed down on my face and clamped to the table. At least it’s only 10 treatments.

I just read your more complete update. That treatment does have a slightly medievalish sound to it. But every day will be one day closer to the end of the treatment course – and that certainly is something to look forward to.
Young and well-qualified is good. To-the-point is even better. Good luck tomorrow!

How long does each treatment take?

Each treatment is about 10 minutes, because they’re treating the whole brain and a specific spot in the neck.
I wish I could come and cheer you on, and bring some kind of “radiation calendar”, based on the same premise as the advent calendar. After every treatment, you get to check of that square on the calendar and eat a luscious piece of chocolate. At the very end, we’d go out and get you a great big chocolate cake. You deserve to pamper yourself with all of this going on. I’m glad you at least have the tranquilizers to help you deal with the mask. Sounds barbaric and horrid. Will be there in spirit and heart. xoxoxoxoxxoxo

Ok. 10 minutes. That might be doable. Or.am I a fool? With the help of good tranquilizers.
I will be thinking of you and holding your hand. They are tied down . I know. I will manage anyway. I am no stranger to hospitals and their equipment, thanks to my daughter, Susan.
